As far as I can add, many casinos rely on marketing partners; however, the unsubscribe option should always work. A decent casino will unsubscribe a player upon simple request. Furthermore, ensuring that no further promotions will be sent feels natural in the event that the account is closed at the player's request. Account closure due to self-exclusion should result in a complete unsubscribe step.
However, based on the forum, the reality remains quite different. 🙁
