I am writing to provide a follow-up regarding my ongoing issue with BetSofa, specifically concerning the removal of my responsible gambling limits before the mandatory cool-off period had passed. Despite my previous communication, the casino's responses have been unsatisfactory and unacceptable.
Summary of the Situation:
A week ago (Exact times and amounts to be provided whenever the Casino feels like they should show them to me), I set certain gambling limits on my account to manage my spending and protect myself from potential harm until my documents are reviewed.
On the 26th of April, I requested the removal of those limits; however, the casino removed them immediately, without enforcing the 24-hour cool-off period which is a standard practice in the industry.
This led to significant financial losses of $[380] initially, followed by an additional loss of $[277] after the limits were removed prematurely.
Casino's Response:
In their most recent communication, the casino has claimed that they were merely following my request, stating:
"We are obliged to remove limits upon request without considering the player’s state of mind."
They also mentioned that they cannot inquire further about the player’s emotional state, implying that it was my responsibility to disclose any issues with gambling addiction.
While I understand that casinos need to respect players' requests, this response is completely unacceptable for the following reasons:
Breach of Responsible Gambling Protocols: The casino failed to enforce the mandatory cool-off period before removing my limits. This cooling-off period is designed to protect players from impulsive decisions, and its removal is a clear violation of standard responsible gambling protocols.
Casino’s Responsibility to Enforce Safeguards: It is not my responsibility to explicitly disclose any mental health issues or gambling problems to the casino. Failure to Acknowledge Player Protection: The casino’s argument that they cannot make inquiries into my mental state is disingenuous. While customer support may not be able to assess a player’s mental health, they are responsible for enforcing responsible gambling measures — a duty which they failed to uphold in this case.
Losses Incurred Due to Their Negligence: The casino’s failure to apply responsible gambling measures led to my unnecessary losses. I am requesting a full refund of the $380 that I lost initially, as well as the additional $277 that followed, as a result of their negligence in removing my limits prematurely.
